As we continue to grow and the gym gets busier, it is important that we have some basic rules in place to ensure that we meet the needs of groups, members and any new people who may just be dropping in. We have established some common sense rules within the gym such as putting your equipment back and bringing a large bath sized towel however, we believe it to be important that we have a few staples which are in writing.
1. No kids in the gym
There really is no "SAFE" place for kids. Kids can disappear as quickly as they appear and find themselves in dangerous positions at the blink of an eye. We absolutely love children but we value their safety and cannot be attending to children whilst attending to the needs of our athletes. Our responsibility is your safety and bringing your children to the gym will prevent you from fulfilling your workout safely as your attention will be focused on your child. We encourage parents to alternate between the many classes in order adequately suit their needs.
2. Be on time
Be on-time, we begin classes on time for a reason so that you receive the allocated time for a warm up and to be taught the skills needed for the WOD. If you miss this essential part you may not be ready to do the workout properly and may result in an unwanted injury. If for some reason being late is unavoidable for example traffic we would then advise you to take a later class especially if this is ongoing. We encourage members to be mindful of one another so when a class has already commenced and you are late please wait patiently for the next class in an area that is not being used. Minute for Burpee penalties will apply for latecomers...
3. Don't coach unless you are a CFA trainer on Staff
Although this may seem quite small and insignificant, it is becoming more common as an increasing number of people become aware of CrossFit. Please note that there is a notable difference between "Coaching" and "encouraging" your fellow crossfitter. For example: supporting "c'mon, one more rep" as opposed to: coaching"you need to <insert cue that you have heard> Most Crossfitters have a good knowledge of the workouts and the movements although most aren't qualified to teach it. Without the necessary experience & qualifications you may easily misjudge or misinterpret a movement causing a person to either adapt to bad form or induce an injury. CFA is an affiliated weightlifting club with a strong coaching and training background in the Oly Lifts. We ask those who offer "advice / coaching" to consider as they are doing so if they are prepared to be liable for the "advice" they offer in case of any mishap. So please leave the coaching to the trainers and support your fellow members. That is why golfers are penalised for offering advice. If you see something that looks wrong or dangerous, grab a coach. Otherwise, focus on your own technique and put your energy into supporting and encouraging those around you.
We love that the place is relaxed and casual so we don't want a lot of rules. The ones listed above are important to us and will ensure that we can continue to deliver high level coaching for you.
Thankyou,
Mike and Gemma
